Is your Janitorial Staff Cleaning out THESE Spots in Your Office?

Germs—microscopic organisms—that are found everywhere. But there are certain areas in our workplace that are a breeding ground for bacteria.

According to research conducted in the University of Arizona, “If one person comes to work sick, they can spread 50% of the germs to their co-workers by lunchtime.”

You might want to think twice before touching these 5 high germ spots in your workplace. Get that hand sanitizer ready!

The Door Handle

The door handle is touched by every person entering or leaving the space. It harbors the most germs. Even if you don’t make physical contact with your colleagues, there’s a high chance that germs will get transferred to you through the door handle.

Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer, whenever you touch the door handle.

The Coffee Pot

Almost everyone touches the coffee pot in the break room, throughout the day. According to the study conducted by Dr. Reynolds, the handle of a coffee pot is one of the most contaminated spots in the office. It is touched by everyone several times a day.

But according to her research, even if someone cleans the handle once a day, with a cleaning wipe, it kills 80% of the germs.

Your Phone

Your cell phone goes everywhere with you—to the lunch table, the bathroom, the conference room. You’re constantly touching your phone which means it contains bacteria from every place you have been to.

According to Dr. Reynolds’ study, “the phone contains 10 times more germs than a toilet seat and every one in six phones is also contaminated with fecal matter!”  So make a habit of wiping your phone with disinfectant cleaning wipes frequently.

The Desktop

Many viruses, including the flu virus, stay in the air for about 10 minutes and then settle on the surface below, where they can survive for days. Your desk comes in contact with everything—your phone, bag, coffee mug, unwashed hands and the keyboard—making it a nesting ground for germs everywhere.

Be careful of what you put on your desk and make sure you wipe it at least once a day!

The Keyboard

You touch it all the time and it almost never gets cleaned. If you eat at your desk, there a very high chance that food particles get stuck between the keys, making a keyboard a breeding ground for germs.

Your office is a germ-infested place. Make sure it’s being regularly cleaned, to keep your employees from getting sick.
